Strengths: After taking a medical redshirt as a Freshman, Ragas has been a routine contributor in the Ragin’ Cajun backfield for four consecutive seasons. He comes with steady experience and has plenty of tread on the tires with just under 650 total college touches. The New Orleans native is well-built at 5’10” and 230 pounds and has all the needed thickness to play between the tackles in the NFL. Ragas’ vision in the box is above-average and he does well to identify slivers of space in condensed areas. Beyond that, he has impressive one-step lateral quickness given his size and utilizes good foot strikes to stab and get vertical immediately as a runner. Ragas packages his skills together nicely every down to be an effective rotational piece in an NFL backfield. 

Weaknesses: The play speed is nothing to write home about and NFL linebackers won’t have much trouble chasing Ragas to the edge. While not a plodding runner, there’s a lack of burst to separate after reaching the second level. NFL linebackers won’t bounce off him like college defensive backs and Ragas will have to correct his tendency to run upright within the box. He’s simply giving up too much of a strike zone and, while he can take a pounding and stay in motion, NFL defenders will certainly come with a little more oomph than he’s routinely seen. Whether a product of the Louisiana offense or his skillset, Ragas doesn’t look particularly advanced as a receiving threat and is limited in his potential NFL route tree from the backfield. Ragas turns 25 his rookie season and will be viewed as an older prospect at his position, limiting the amount of draft capital that a team will feel comfortable investing in him.  

What I Love: Ragas’ contact balance and vision from B-gap to B-gap is some of the best in the class and could be what keeps him in the NFL for the next decade.
