The State of College Football: Week 2

Welcome to another amazing week after an extraordinary weekend of college football! We had some big time upsets, epic comebacks and the dethroning of a champion. Feels like we are in for a crazy season - like one of those Dr. Pepper commercials.

My Top 25. This week has a lot of teams dropping down and dropping out - making room for teams like Northern Illinois and Nebraska!

With the top 25 taking shape we can start to look to the College Football Playoff Bracket. The top four conference winners get the top four spots and a bye, with spots 5-12 playing in the first round. The 5, 6, 7 and 8 seed host a home game! NIU sneaks in as the top rated Group of 5 champion [I used the AP ranking for the bracket].

Predictive Champs Right Now:
SEC Champ: Georgia
Big Ten Champ: Ohio State
ACC Champ: Miami
Big 12 Champ: Oklahoma State
Group of 5 Champ: Northern Illinois

It’s going to take awhile to get used to the CFP bracket and moving away from valuing the top 25 rankings each week. For example: Texas is up to No. 2 in the AP poll but still come in at No. 5 in the bracket because of conference champions getting the top four spots.

A weekly look at the movement of the Heisman candidates and where I see the award going.

Stock UP:
Miller Moss, USC: Moss looked very good against LSU and followed that up again this week. I’m not putting him in my top 5, yet, but the USC QB looks very comfortable in the position and has the offense scoring points.
