Tay Gowan 2021 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Name: Tay Gowan
College: UCF
Height: 6-1
Weight: 186
Overall Rank: 101
Position Rank: CB13
Strengths: Tay Gowan might be the third ranked UCF defensive back among many, but there’s a chance he could be the best of the trio. In his one year at UCF, Gowan only allowed 20 catches on 50 total targets. He did that in a scheme that executed several NFL defensive concepts like playing in press man-to-man coverage. Gowan moves well enough for a cornerback his size. He has a great combination of height, length, and size which teams will covet at the cornerback position. Gowan has shown a competitiveness at the catch point. He’s also shown the ability to time plays correctly which is important considering the lack of elite speed.
Weaknesses: Lack of game tape and level of competition is a big downside for Gowan. He doesn’t have any elite traits to his game. Lacks elite speed downfield and his shiftiness isn’t great. He could add 5-10 more pounds to his build to help his strength when covering bigger receivers.
What I Love: Gowan possess the attitude on tape to become a very good man coverage cornerback. As I mentioned earlier, he may not have anything elite to his game; but he does so many things on an above average level, he could wind up being a day three steal. Maybe, even a day two pick if a team sees what I see.
