Stone Forsythe 2021 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Name: Stone Forsythe
Position: Offensive Tackle
College: Florida
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 307 lbs
Overall Rank: No. 68 overall
Position Rank: OT12
Strengths: Stone Forsythe has genetics that can’t be coached and comes from an NFL family, with father, Ray, playing for the Bengals. Forsythe has spent the last two seasons starting every game at left tackle in the highly-competitive SEC. He’s seen glimpses of NFL talent every week. He offers good versatility as a swing tackle early in his career with potential to develop into a quality starter soon. There are obvious benefits to his length that allow him to set vertically comfortably and create space on the edge. He looks comfortable utilizing multiple set techniques and is efficient in pass protection, using good timing to strike and maintain and effective posture. Given his natural length, Forsythe carries the weight evenly distributed and is able to engage it all when sinking into his hips and snuffing out power rushers.
Weaknesses: While Forsythe mitigates the challenges of his height well, there are simply always going to be leverage concerns. He has the technique to overcome them sometimes, but NFL rushers are a different breed and he will lose some reps simply due to a physiological inability to get any lower. His reactive athleticism is a challenge and inside counter rushers will win as a result of Forsythe’s underwhelming ability to post inside. He struggles to redirect his weight back in and doesn’t nail his foot into the turf fast enough on counters, causing an opening of his inside hip and soft inside shoulder, particularly when he tries to quick-set laterally at the line of scrimmage. He loves to use his length but can get overextended in the run game and starts to run with a more lumbering nature, making it a major challenge to reach NFL speed at the second level.
What I Love: Forsythe has natural length that can’t be taught and already displays impressive power that doesn’t typically come with such a long frame.
