Ronnie Perkins 2021 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Name: Ronnie Perkins
Position: EDGE
College: Oklahoma
Height: 6’2 1/2”
Weight: 253 lbs
Overall Rank: No. 40 overall
Position Rank: EDGE6
Strengths: Perkins was a man possessed to end the season and played his best football down the stretch. Scouts and coaches are hoping they can keep that motor running and tap into his vast potential. Perkins doesn’t have great size or length but has very good quickness and power in his stocky frame. He’s at his best moving forward and coming off the edge in a wide set, which does fit a popular defensive front being used in San Francisco and now the NY Jets. Perkins is loaded with potential and could break out if he can unlock his lower body.
Weaknesses: Limited experience and reps are hurting Perkins’ projection as teams are truly left looking at traits to determine his position. His lack of twitch in his lower body could keep him from playing in a 3-4 defense as a stand-up rusher and he lacks the size to play as a 4-3 defensive end. The ‘tweener designation may hit him, but if the scheme fit allows him to work without needing that elite first step quickness, he could excel.
What I Love: Perkins ended his college career with a rash of production that has to be looked it. If he can carry that momentum over to the NFL, he has a chance to be great.
