Richie Grant 2021 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Name: Richie Grant
Position: Safety
College: UCF
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 197 lbs (pro day)
Overall Rank: No. 59 overall
Position Rank: S4
Strengths: The most productive safety in the 2021 NFL draft class by terms of ball skills and turnovers, Grant was all over the field for UCF and had a great Senior Bowl week to start his pre-draft process. He’s a smooth-moving athlete with deep safety chops. He’s also versatile enough to play near the box and has experience in man coverage against slot receivers and tight ends. A natural centerfielder, Grant has excellent range over the top and flows to the ball effortlessly. A height, weight, speed package prospect, Grant offers upside athletically but heads into the NFL with pro-readiness.
Weaknesses: If used in the box often, Grant’s lack of play power could become an issue. He’s at times untrusting of his eyes and hesitates to break on the ball and can get lost in traffic on underneath routes. His long speed is average and could become an issue in matchup situations.
What I Love: Grant’s production in college plus his wow week at the Senior Bowl has made him one of the biggest risers on my board this process. His toughness, ball skills and athleticism are NFL-starter caliber.
