QB Power Rankings: Stacking Teams 1-32
Which teams are set at quarterback...and which teams are in desperate need of upgrades?
The cornerstone of any great NFL franchise is the quarterback position. The Kansas City Chiefs replaced the New England Patriots’ dynasty and it’s no surprise that one great quarterback (Patrick Mahomes) has simply replaced another (Tom Brady) as the league’s premier player on the league’s premier team.
At the quarterback position, you either have a player who can win you guys, a player you can win games with, or a player you’ll lose games with. The breakdown is pretty simple.
Elite quarterbacks can win you games. They are limited, but we are in an era of really good play at the top of the league. Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and others populate this category.
Then there the quarterbacks you can win games with. These players can win games with a great scheme and/or great defense around them. That’s not to take away from any of their individual talents, but they probably need some help to get it done. Players like Matthew Stafford and Jalen Hurts are the top-end of this spectrum thanks to their skills; whereas players like Kirk Cousins and Tua Tagovailoa are near the other end.
And then you have the quarterbacks that’ll lose you games. And cost you jobs. You know when you have one of these guys.
So who fits in where? We’ll break that down for you and update the list weekly as things change.
This is also an important aspect for team building and roster construction. Teams ranked at the bottom of the list will be scouting quarterbacks for the upcoming offseason. And we’ll note when a veteran quarterback is on the way out or when there is a young, developing quarterback on the roster.
