We’re back for another amazing, never bad, 100% never wrong, week of sports betting. This week we (by “we” I mean I) need a comeback but I feel (no, I KNOW) it’s coming.
Nebraska @ 3 Oklahoma (-22.5), 11:00 CT, FOX, O/U: 61.5
My first taste of college football was watching Tommie Frazier run all over the freshly formed Big 12 and I am obviously not the biggest supporter of OU. HOWEVER, I am not stupid. Oklahoma can win this game by as many points as they want to and are fresh off a 76-point performance over Western Carolina - I know they’re not the toughest competition. But OU and Spencer Rattler have a lot to play for still and Nebraska is still a big enough name to warrant attention and respect. The 22.5 point spread is a big one - but this could be a Spencer Rattler Heisman game. I’m taking the Sooners to cover the spread.
8 Cincinnati (-4) @ Indiana, 11:00 CT, ESPN, O/U: 50
Just a few weeks ago I was buying into Indiana being a good team but after a blowout loss to Iowa and an easy win over Idaho, I’m slowly backing off the Hoosiers. On the other side of the field, the Cincinnati Bearcats are dealing with some distractions with their head coach named in USC rumors but I’m buying the Bearcats and their veteran team on the road. Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder should also have a big game and the Cincinnati secondary will be able to handle the Hoosiers passing attack. I’m taking the Bearcats money line, the OVER and the Cats to cover!
15 Virginia Tech @ West Virginia (-3), 11:00 CT, FS1, O/U: 50.5
Virginia Tech has a salty defense this season and West Virginia has an exciting offense that hasn’t hit it’s stride yet. I’m keeping a close eye on the under in this one but also expecting a typical Virginia Tech let down game. I get excited about the possibility of Tech being “back” early in every season - and then they lose a game they should win. I’ll call my shot here and say West Virginia wins. Sing Country Roads!!!
1 Alabama (-14.5) @ 11 Florida, 2:30 CT, CBS, O/U: 58.5
I have no doubt Alabama will win this game, it’s just figuring out how much they win by that’s scary. 14.5 points in the Swamp is a lot...but it’s Bama and Nick Saban. Saban will have his guys ready to go and use this as another statement game. The Gators are talented but beating up on USF and FAU is a little different than hosting Alabama. Bama covers the spread - but keep an eye on both Florida quarterbacks in this one.
South Carolina @ 2 Georgia (-31.5), 6:00 CT, ESPN, O/U: 48.5
If quarterback JT Daniels was playing for Georgia I wouldn’t be so nervous about the 30 point spread. But with Daniels and backup Stetson Bennett questionable for the Dawgs - 31.5 is too much. I’m taking Georgia to win but I think they do it conservatively - as if they know another way - with a solid run game and outstanding defense. South Carolina gets beat but keeps it close enough to cover the huge spread and earns the Super Underdog Locksmith Game of the Week to Bet Your Money On!
22 Auburn @ 10 Penn State (-6), 6:30 CT, ABC, O/U: 53
Auburn has looked really good under first year head coach Bryan Harsin but they have beaten up on the little guys so far. Can they put up points on Penn State in Happy Valley? The over/under tells me that Vegas doesn’t think so - and I agree. Penn State proved they can beat good teams when they beat Wisconsin at Wisconsin. Now they get to host Auburn in their Whiteout Game - at night. I like the Nittany Lions because I’m not buying into the Auburn hype yet. If Auburn can prove they can put points on real teams I’ll buy in more next week. But for now I’m going with the proof in Penn State. Take Penn State to cover the 6.
