Name: Penei Sewell
College: Oregon
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 331 lbs
Arm Length: 33 1/4”
Overall Rank: 4
Position Rank: OT1
Strengths: An elite-level mover at left tackle with a mean streak, Penei Sewell mauls players in the run game. He’s quick out of his stance and has power behind his burst to get to the second-level. He’s able to handle both speed and power lined up on top of him or in space. His first-step is controlled but powerful. He’s poised but violent. Just 20 years old, Sewell will enter the NFL as a top-tier run blocker with the potential to become an elite pass blocker. His lower body quickness and strength are special, as is his overall athleticism. His ability to quickly get to the second level will rank near the top of the NFL from his first day in the league. There is a boom-or-bust nature to Sewell’s game as he’s so dominant in the run game and still learning in the pass game, but players with his athleticism generally work out pretty well. His development in the pass game could take a season, but once he puts it all together Sewell will be an upper-level tackle.
Weaknesses: Upper body technique and strength are areas of improvement for Sewell, who opted out of the 2020 season. Pass-rushers who were able to get inside his reach gave him fits, so he has to work on better timing his punch in the pass game. There have been concerns shared by area scouts that Sewell is immature and could struggle to acclimate to a new city and team.
What I Love: Rarely do we see college left tackles with the power, violence and tenacity that Sewell brings to the table. His athleticism and power are truly awesome.
