NFL Starters from Day 2-3
The draft is loaded with talent every year and we all know the top names. Will Anderson and Bryce Young have been superstars since their first year at Alabama. But what about the impact rookies like Tariq Woolen? The 6’4” corner was drafted in the 5th round and no one talked about him, other than his size, throughout the entire process. Today we’ll look into some prospects that could be instant starters and eventual starters from Day 2 and 3 of this year's draft.
Quarterback: Hendon Hooker, Tennessee
Hooker is an interesting name because his stock is so hot right now that he might not make it to Day 2! Every time I turn on Hooker’s tape I see Geno Smith - another Day 2 guy who took time to develop - and that’s what I think Hooker will be. However, I don’t foresee it taking Hooker as long as Geno to excel in the NFL. In his early days as Virginia Tech Hooker looked like an athlete playing the quarterback position but under Josh Heupel at Tennessee, Hooker showed he was more than just an athlete. In fact, Hooker looked more like a pocket passer than ever. I love the Geno Smith comp for Hooker and I would love to see him fall into a spot where he can sit a year and then take over as the starter in year 2. Much like what we’re seeing with Desmond Ridder in Atlanta.
