Strengths: A senior prospect, Jones is the most accurate quarterback in the 2021 draft class in terms of ball placement, timing and anticipation. Jones bided his time at Alabama—sitting behind Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa—before replacing the latter following his injury. Jones beat out highly-touted recruit Bryce Young before the 2020 season and flourished in a year that saw him throw 41 touchdowns to just four interceptions. Jones is a super smart prospect who has not struggled to adapt, pick up verbiage or implement concepts very quickly. He’s an anticipatory thrower who is sharp on breaking routes, throws a beautiful deep ball and will clear defenders with his eyes. When the pocket is clean, Jones is surgical with ball placement and timing. He has the highest floor of any of the 2021 quarterback prospects thanks to his accuracy and football IQ.

Weaknesses: Jones started just 17 games in college. He was arrested for a DUI in 2017. The biggest concerns with Jones’ game are the lack of elite physical traits—he has the weakest arm of the projected first-round quarterbacks and is the least mobile of them as well. In an NFL moving toward mobility at the position, his lack of it is hard to overcome. Jones was also surrounded by elite weapons on the offensive line, at running back and especially at wide receiver. Scouts must determine how much of his success and how much of his accuracy was dependent upon what’s around him.

What I Love: Jones could have transfered and played sooner, but he gutted it out at Alabama and proved himself as a quarterback and as a leader. That adversity he learned to deal with over the first three years and change at ‘Bama will help him immensely in his NFL career.
