Liam Eichenberg 2021 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Name: Liam Eichenberg
Position: Offensive Tackle
College: Notre Dame
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 306 lbs
Arm Length: 32 3/8”
Overall Rank: No. 54 overall
Position Rank: OT7
Strengths: A three-year starter at left tackle for Notre Dame, Eichenberg is among the most experienced left tackles in the ‘21 draft class. A stud in the run game, Eichenberg knows how to get his pads low and take defenders for a ride. He has hand and arm strength to grip and control defenders. The Notre Dame run scheme has prepared many quality linemen for the NFL and Eichenberg excelled in it. He understands angles and timing and would be at home in a man or zone scheme. Eichenberg is poised and comfortable; he knows his limitations and covers them up with timing and technique.
Weaknesses: Short arms and poor reach are flags that NFL scouts pointed out in-season. They show up during tape study as well leaving some teams to view Eichenberg as a guard or right tackle despite never playing those positions. He’s inconsistent in the passing game and must be faster in his recovery to handle blindside duties in the pros. Without adequate length and quickness, Eichenberg will likely see a position change in the pros.
What I Love: Experience in the 2021 draft class is hard to come by. Eichenberg’s status as a three year starter at left tackle is valuable.
