Kylin Hill 2021 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Name: Kylin Hill
Position: Running Back
College: Mississippi State
Height: 5’11”
Weight: 214 lbs
Overall Rank: No. 142 overall
Position Rank: RB10
Strengths: From the backfield to 4 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, few backs get up to top speed as quickly and violently as Kylin Hill. He has a good feel for the development of blocking structures and seems to identify gaps in the run game well. Hill grew exponentially as a receiver over his time in college and looks like a viable third-down back in the NFL. He’ll offer enough in pass protection to remain on the field for an entire series and has some versatility to his game that makes him a great roster depth piece early in his career.
Weaknesses: The short-area burst is strong but there is a lack of long speed and he simply won’t be much of a speed threat in the NFL. Hill’s willingness to address contact can become a detriment when he’s routinely seeking to bang with defenders, particularly due to a lack of an elusive skillset. NFL linebackers won’t have to worry about Hill embarrassing them in the open field and instead will be able to throttle into and through tackles. As a result, Hill will face much more powerful contact at the next level. If he doesn’t develop a way to minimize the heavy hits, he’ll wear himself out sooner rather than later.
What I Love: Kylin Hill bounces off contact with ease and is superb at shifting his weight in his hips to remain in motion. Unless defenders square him up and shoot through his thighs, he’s able to easily absorb contact.
