Kelvin Joseph 2021 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Name: Kelvin Joseph
Position: Cornerback
College: Kentucky
Height: 5’11 1/2”
Weight: 197 lbs (pro day)
Overall Rank: No. 58 overall
Position Rank: CB8
Strengths: A natural athlete with ideal NFL cornerback size, Joseph has the swagger and confidence to live in man coverage. A former LSU recruit, Joseph transfered to Kentucky and exceled in his lone season there and pulled down four interceptions. Joseph’s long arms and good core strength allow him to re-route receivers and play in man coverage against bigger, stronger receivers. He’s shown the vertical skills to high-point the ball and make plays to flip the field. In the run game he’s physical and willing to get dirty. A traits-heavy prospect, Joseph will need some patience as he develops in the NFL. But his size, speed and confidence scream man cornerback.
Weaknesses: A lack of reps and experience show up as Joseph’s athletic tools can only take him so far. He trusts his speed to the point of freelancing and looked very undisciplined at times when asked to stay in phase. He can be a late reactor and that won’t fly against NFL receivers with better developed route tools. His handsy penalties will become an eyesore in the NFL if he can’t learn to cover without being so dependent on his hands to re-route receivers and slow them down.
What I Love: Joseph, also known as Bossman Fat, has the athletic tools that few in this class can match. If he develops those skills, he’s athletic enough to be a Round 2 steal.
