Josh Palmer 2021 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Name: Josh Palmer
College: Tennessee
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 210 lbs
Overall Rank: 114
Position Rank: WR19
Strengths: A big week at the 2021 Senior Bowl started a boost in Palmer’s stock. He’s a well-built, athletic wide receiver prospect who didn’t see his stats soar in college due to poor quarterback play around him. Palmer is a physical, poised route-runner with good timing and balance. He’s quicker than fast but holds his own against man coverage and can use tricks and tools to create separation without elite deep speed. Palmer is a natural pass-catcher in space and a reliable possession receiver.
Weaknesses: The lack of stats at Tennessee has to be reconciled with his traits; which is the hardest part of scouting. Palmer doesn’t flash the top-end long speed to run past man coverage or beat in-phase cornerbacks who have good speed. He can be inconsistent as a hands-catcher in traffic. Without the speed to beat press coverage, he could struggle to create consistent separation on the outside in the NFL.
What I Love: Palmer isn’t a twitchy, toolsy wide receiver but he is consistent, smart, and crafty. He has the traits to be a valuable WR3 in the NFL.
