Jets Fire GM Joe Douglas: Who Are the Top Candidates to Replace Him?
Already this season we’ve seen the axe fall on two NFL head coaches—Dennis Allen (Saints) and Robert Saleh (Jets)—and now we have the first general manager job opening with the Jets continuing to clean house by firing Joe Douglas.
When the Jets hired Douglas shortly after the 2019 NFL draft, he was viewed as one of the top candidates available. Douglas’ work with the Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles made him a well-rounded and highly-regarded scout. He had experience on the road, grinding out scouting reports. And he had experience suited-and-booted working as an executive with two franchises.
Douglas, now, is on the hiring line after five years and the Jets will look to begin anew a the top of the franchise’s leadership board.
So where do they go? Each year we talk with NFL decision-makers and king-makers to find out who the top candidates are in both GM and head coaching categories. Today we’ll take a look at who the next crop of bright evaluators are.
