JaCoby Stevens 2021 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Name: JaCoby Stevens
College: LSU
Height: 6’1 1/8”
Weight: 212
Overall Rank: No. 150 overall
Position Rank: S16
Strengths: At LSU, Stevens lined up at box safety, deep safety, slot cornerback, and also linebacker. Stevens is tough enough to play every position and isn’t afraid to jump in when asked of him. Stevens best trait as a football player might be his football IQ. What he lacks in elite traits, he makes up for with knowing where to be and when to be there. He does a good job with coverage assignments, and can keep up with tight ends and slot receivers in the right packages. Stevens has shown the leadership ability to direct his teammates in the backfield be in the right positions, when needed.
Weaknesses: Isn’t quick with flipping his hips, can sometimes get lost in transition when facing a shifty receiver one on one. He’s a smooth defensive player but sometimes plays too slow and can get lost in one speed. He isn’t the greatest at quick transitions.
What I Love: Stevens can wear multiple hats for an NFL defense. I love the fact that he did everything he was asked to do at LSU and not only did it with a smile on his face; he led by example while doing it. Stevens might not be the most talented safety in this class, but he will be a guy that would play special teams, safety, slot corner, box safety , linebacker – all on the same drive if you asked him to. He’s a competitor, a leader, and a good football player.
