Hunter Long 2021 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Name: Hunter Long
College: Boston College
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 254 lbs
Overall Rank: No. 84 overall
Position Rank: TE4
Strengths: A gifted pass-catcher at tight end with NFL size and agility, Hunter Long offers an alignment value at Y-tight end, flex, wing or slot receiver. A monster on 50/50 balls, Long uses his height and length well to adjust to the ball and track it over the top. He’s fantastic in space where his natural athleticism shines. He separates like a receiver with excellent timing and understanding of space. He knows how to make himself a big target for his quarterback and shows a good football IQ as a route runner. With great height, long arms, and a good athletic skill set Long has a massive catch radius.
Weaknesses: Long goes through periods of disappearing as a pass-catcher and too often becomes timid in his route tree and at the point of attack. Keeping his motor running hard will be the first task of his NFL coaches. In the run game he’s a non-factor currently. He’s a big athlete who plays too small as a blocker and receiver.
What I Love: Long moves very well for a big man, is exceptionally smart, and has super soft hands. Get him in a pass-catching scheme and he could tear it up.
