Divine Deablo 2021 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Name: Divine Deablo
Position: Safety
College: Virginia Tech
Height: 6’3”
Weight: 226 lbs (pro day)
Overall Rank: No. 64 overall
Position Rank: S5
Strengths: An eye-opening height/weight/speed prospect at 6’3” and 226 pounds, Deablo was a two-year starter at free safety for Virginia Tech. He has the size, length and mentality to work in the box or single-high. He can matchup with tight ends thanks to his size and strength and play off the edge to stop the run. Deablo’s overall athletic ability is that of an NFL starter. The key for his future team will be defining a role for him to grow in before throwing too much at him. As a hybrid safety-linebacker, he fits perfectly what the pros want in a matchup cover man against tight ends and someone athletic enough to work in run defense as a box defender.
Weaknesses: Instincts and processing are the keys for Deablo’s development. If he doesn’t improve his processing speed, he could struggle to adapt to NFL route combinations. While he’s long and physical, he doesn’t have the long speed to run with receivers and is inconsistent in man coverage. He’s overly aggressive in coverage and against the run, which could be an issue with so much misdirection and playaction in the NFL.
What I Love: Deablo’s height/weight/speed mixture is pure gold. If a team can tap into his potential and work on his reactionary skills, he could be a star.
