Name: Chuba Hubbard
Position: Running Back
College: Oklahoma State
Height: 6’0”
Weight: 208 lbs
Overall Rank: No. 187 overall
Position Rank: RB13
Strengths: A rhythm back who can tear apart defenses when given touches, Hubbard is smart, instinctive and shows good field vision to find lanes. He’s a controlled runner who will follow the designed path but also has the agility to create laterally when defenders penetrate the offensive line. A downhill, straight-arrow type of runner, Hubbard is ideal for zone schemes that will give him a quick window to shoot through. As a pass catcher, Hubbard wasn’t used heavily, but has the hands to be a weapon in checkdown situations.
Weaknesses: An ankle injury ended Hubbard’s season prematurely. You have to wonder why his production, impact and energy on the field dropped off so drastically from 2019 to 2020. He doesn’t have much power to his game and won’t run over defenders or push the pile in short-yardage situations. His speed is just average in the open field and he can be beaten to the corner by space defenders. Fumbles in 2019 were an issue we hoped to see improve in 2020.
What I Love: Hubbard’s 2019 tape is NFL-starting caliber. The hope is that getting into a new system outside of Oklahoma State will bring back the player who rushed for 2,000 yards as a redshirt junior.
