Mock drafts are a lot of fun. They’re fun to write. They’re fun to read. And we know it’s what you want. So we’re doing something new today with a two-round mock draft.
But that’s not all that’s different. For this mock draft we used the Pro Football Focus mock draft simulator. It’s a great tool, and a ton of fun to play around with. But here’s the catch on this mock draft: We selected odd numbered teams to control and allowed the computer to control even numbered teams. This builds in some realism, factors in a Big Board other than our own rankings, and gives a fresh take on team needs.
We set the Advanced Settings to care equally about positional value, equally for team needs, and turned randomness down low.
Let’s get weird.
For each pick we’ll give you:
Team needs
Our best available players at the time
Player selection (us vs. PFF)
Round One
1.01 Jacksonville Jaguars (Draft Scout)
Team Needs: CB, S, WR, DT, IOL
Best Players Available: WR/CB Travis Hunter (Colorado), CB Will Johnson (Michigan), DE Abdul Carter (Penn State)
Selection: Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado
The best player in the class goes to a team with needs at each of his starting positions.
1.02 Las Vegas Raiders (PFF)
Team Needs: QB, WR, DT, CB, S
BPA: CB Will Johnson (Michigan), DE Abdul Carter (Penn State), DT Mason Graham (Michigan)
Selection: Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama
Well, we didn’t see that one coming. Milroe has elite traits but needs to develop better throwing mechanics and timing. His anticipation as a thrower is very basic and is more reactive as a playmaker.
1.03 New York Giants (Draft Scout)
Team Needs: QB, OT, CB, WR, OG
BPA: CB Will Johnson (Michigan), DE Abdul Carter (Penn State), DT Mason Graham (Michigan)
Selection: Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
The Giants have to start over at quarterback and Sanders is the best in the class. He needs to work on speeding up his process in the pocket, but his accuracy and arm talent are very good.
