“Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match!”
We will, today.
There are 12 NFL teams with a need at quarterback. Some of them desperately need starters. Some need a high-level QB2 who can compete for the starting job or be tabbed as the quarterback of the future.
12 teams, though. Approximately a third of the NFL could flip the most important and most difficult position to play in all of sports this offseason.
Today we’ll take a look at who those 12 teams are, where they sit in the most recent 2024 NFL draft order, and which players they can realistically target to improve their chances in the next season.
Strap in. This one is fun.
Chicago Bears - Pick #1 Overall
Need: Starter
Pick: Caleb Williams, USC
The Bears will have a very tough decision surrounding Justin Fields if he plays like he did against Detroit—but that’s a bad secondary he tore apart and the front office shouldn’t let one game cloud their judgement on the position. If the Bears secure the first overall pick from Carolina, Williams should be the pick with Fields traded to add draft capital on Day 2.
New England Patriots - Pick #2 Overall
Need: Starter
Pick: Drake Maye, North Carolina
It will be a total rebuild in New England soon, and very likely with a new front office and head coach leading the way. Maye is the type of quarterback the Patriots can build around, but he needs a supporting cast more than Williams or Jayden Daniels would. The Pats will need to shore up the left tackle spot and add receivers who can win 50/50 balls in free agency.
