2023 Quarterback Tiers and Scouting Notes
With the 2023 NFL Draft less than two weeks away it is time to start finalizing those big boards and mock drafts. Big boards are a great way to rank players but they don’t always tell the full story. Two quarterbacks can be stacked No. 3 and No. 4 and still be miles apart - Like I have Anthony Richardson and Will Levis.
Tier 1
CJ Stroud, Ohio State
Stroud burst onto the scene at Ohio State with big shoes to fill when Justin Fields left. But Stroud and the Ohio State offense didn’t miss a beat in his two seasons as starter. Stroud has a high floor and looks like he will be a starter in the NFL for a very long time. His ability to throw with accuracy all over the field was on display at Ohio State and again at the NFL Combine this spring.
Does he have super star potential? Possibly. His landing spot will also dictate whether or not he develops into a super star but I believe Stroud could end up in the Deshaun Watson or Justin Herbert tier of NFL quarterbacks.
Positives:
Has the arm strength and accuracy to be dangerous with the deep ball
Put on a show at the NFL Combine with accuracy and drive
Doesn’t force throws if they’re not there
Has enough arm strength to fit most windows in the NFL
Biggest games were during biggest games
Concerns:
Doesn’t always have the best field vision
Scheme and receivers at Ohio State make the position easier
Mobile but not a runner
Comp: Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns or Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
