The 2023 NFL offseason is set to be an exciting one. And while it’s unlikely that Lamar Jackson, Aaron Rodgers, Derek Carr and Tom Brady would all change locations, we’re at least going to take a look at how the first round could look if the four quarterbacks were moved or left via free agency.
This is not a prediction. This is, instead, a look at how the quarterback movement before the NFL draft could shake up what happens in the first 31 selections.
1. Indianapolis Colts (via Chicago Bears) — QB Bryce Young, Alabama
Projected Trade: Colts send picks Nos. 4, 35 and a 2024 1st rounder to Chicago
The Colts leverage a relationship with Bears’ general manager Ryan Poles to jump division rival Houston for the top quarterback in the draft.
2. Houston Texans — QB Will Levis, Kentucky
The Texans sit tight at No. 2 overall and likely get the player they wanted all along. Nick Caserio, GM of the Texans, will want the arm strength and toughness of Levis.
3. Arizona Cardinals — DE Will Anderson, Alabama
The easiest pick of the draft. Anderson is the top overall player in the class and the Cardinals have big-time needs at pass-rusher.
4. Chicago Bears (from Indianapolis) — DL Jalen Carter, Georgia
Projected Trade: Colts send picks Nos. 4, 35 and a 2024 1st rounder to Chicago
The Bears move back and get much-needed draft capital while staying in place to get the player they’d likely select at No. 1 overall. Win-win for GM Poles.
5. Seattle Seahawks (from Denver) — DE Myles Murphy, Clemson
The Seahawks are in a great position to trade out and let a quarterback-needy team come up the board, but don’t have to move out if they like a player here. Myles Murphy is the type of high-traits pass-rusher the team needs.
