2022 AFC Breakout Players: Predicting 16 Breakouts in the '22 Season
Every season we see new players breakout and become important starters for their respective franchises. It doesn’t mean instant superstardom, but the 32 players listed below are our projections to become key contributors for their teams and locker rooms. Maybe that means going from backup to starter or going from solid starter to really good player. But we’re betting on jumps for these players.
Bills — RB James Cook
The Bills have not been happy with the running back production with Devin Singletary and Zack Moss in the backfield. Cook was drafted in the second round to boost that unit and he’ll do so as a slashing runner and receiver.
Dolphins — OLB Jaelan Phillips
A first-rounder in 2021, Phillips had 8.5 sacks last year (very quietly) and started to emerge as a threat at outside linebacker. We’re expecting double-digit sacks and a bigger impact this year. And likely Pro Bowl attention.
Patriots — RB Rhamondre Stevenson
With over 600 yards rushing and five touchdowns last year, Stevenson made himself into a household name in New England. This year he’ll get even more looks with James White retired. The coaching staff clearly trusts him and as the passing game gels he’ll carry the offense.
