10 for Tuesday: 10 Players the Media Isn't On Yet
Our former pro scout A. Scout unveils his list of 10 players the national media isn't talking about. Yet.
The job of an area scout for an NFL team means you’re generally ahead of the curve, at least in your area. Let’s say for example you’re tasked with the West Coast teams—mostly the Pac-12. You’ll know the players their intimately. But if a Mel Kiper, Jr. or Matt Miller reaches out for a quote on a Big 10 player, you likely won’t have watched any of that player during the season. It’s one way those anonymous “scout’s quotes” pieces can be misleading if the media member is asking an area scout about players he doesn’t cover.
That’s why we all aim for that college scouting director gig. You want to be able to not only assign the best scouts to the best areas (like the SEC), but you want to be a national evaluator looking at the best players or the biggest areas of need.
I’ve done both; working areas and working the national scene. And I can tell you that one of the most valuable cards a national evaluator has early in the season is being “on” players before anyone else is.
Here are my 10 players you aren’t hearing a ton about yet, but will be soon.
